Well fiddle me improv.
Yeah it is a little late ... but so is my mail man. Anyway I had another enjoyable evening watching the improvisation corporation perform at the Arts Center on October 29. There was also a brother sister team playing fiddle and piano to open and close the show. It only cost 5 bucks too! What a deal! This is the second show I've attended for the IC, the first one in September had (I forget the name of the group) three ladies singing older tunes with a fourth lady accompanying on piano, open and close the show.
I got to thinking I would not normally go see these other acts if they were appearing by themselves, but I am glad I got to see them as I love listening to harmonies and found myself humming along. The brother sister team I enjoyed also and found myself tapping my feet to the music. I also enjoy watching to see how other performers handle the unexpected little things that happen in live performances and how they work through them(a little improv of their own).
The flip side to this of course is the people that went to the show to really see the musical acts and some had their first taste of an Improv show. During both shows people sitting around me were having a great time laughing, and enjoying the non intimidating(to the audience) humor. I often heard things like ... Was that really NOT rehearsed? How do they do that? and I haven't laughed like that in a long time! For me the "No Profanity" rule was a bonus because I have seen it used often as a crutch...get the quick laugh etc. I personally feel more comfortable and enjoy it more not hearing the profanity but seeing the acting that might possibly evoke it.
I really like the format of the show as it gives the audience a chance to have a taste of both forms of entertainment and may broaden the interests of the spectators.
Hopefully my wife and my mother will be able to attend the next show at the Arts Center, with me.
After the show, on the way home, I dropped in to a friends Halloween Party. It was nice as I really hadn't seen them really since their wedding approx 4 years ago, so it was nice to catch up and as an added bonus I got to sing a couple of tunes with none other than Chad! Great Fun!

Gilberto, YOU were that masked man?
Good times indeedy. Always good to crank up the Fab Four. I'll email you a couple pics from that night.

I also enjoyed the shpw at the Arts Center. I'm sorry I missed the fiddling - we were a bit late arriving due to our halloween costume preparations, and then we had to leave as sonn as the Improv troup was done. Looking forward to the next show too! :-)
